Hi, Thanks for this site. I thought my husband and I were the only ones who appreciated this overlooked gem. I wish it could be re-released to the theaters to give Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan fans another chance to see what they overlooked. I saw the movie in 1990 and it stayed with me all this time. Recently I purchased the DVD and watched it and my teenaged children loved it too.

941???

I can't believe no one figured that one out. I have not read The Bible in ages but knew right away what it meant once the luggage raft scene came up.

It has GOT to be a reference to Mark 9:41...

""For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."

It was a premonition. When he gave Patricia the tiny cups of water instead of drinking it himself, that was when everything irrevocably changed for good. The "reward" (love, rebirth, etc) was his. By giving, he recieved.

Also, today was the day I became obsessed with JVTV. It was on this morning and I caught the last half on the Encore Channel. Two scenes (the moon, and Meg Ryan's incredible "leap" speech) just blew me away, almost bringing me to tears. It was the first time I had seen it since 1990, when I was 24. Now, at age 39 the movie had a completely different effect on me. I quickly checked to see if they were repeating it, and they were, at 7:15 tonight. So I cancelled all my plans and spent the whole day reading everything on the net I could about it. Then I watched it from start to finish. For the last 45 minutes I have been playing "Marooned Without You" over and over on my headphones. Looks like I will not be getting muvh sleep tonight. What a great day!

Did anyone notice Nathan Lane (The Producers) in the movie?? He was one of the natives who was featured prominently.

Amazing movie, and it warms my heart to see others who love it also. Gives me hope for the world.
