Someone's probably pointed this out already, but in the remote chance they haven't, the name 'Joe Banks' is actually based off of Sir Joseph Banks, the gentleman naturalist who accompanied Captain Cook on his Pacific voyage.

I've loved Joe vs. the Volcano since the day it came out on video. I will always regret missing it on the big screen!

Joe vs the Volcano is a classic. Those that made/created it had a wonderfully magical idea but Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan made it all happen. PLUS, the music, oh the music, THAT is what makes the movie. The main song "Marooned Without You" is so haunting and beguiling and fits so well with the movie as does all the other songs AND Tom Hanks is a very good singer. Thanks to all that attributed to its creation, it will be appreciated by many yet to come and by me each time I see it. 2004

Are the people that post here the ones that "live in constant, total amazement?" This movie has been very influential in my life, and like the South American guy I have used it to pull me through tough situations. Also like the previous poster, good to see there are so many others out there.

So glad to see other people like htis movie as much as I do. Ive watched it with allot of other people and very few of them see the meaning behind it. Most people see it as cute or just a B movie. Im glad Im not the only one who sees how uplifting this movies is and how much it reminds us of the importance of the soul and living life to the fullest...Courage interests me!

"...still waiting for SOMEONE to corner JP Shanely or Tom Hanks or Meg and get them to reflect on this movie..."

Well, as current operator of the JVTV site, I want first dibs on Meg's interview. (Going out to heat up the hot-tub now.)
