This is my hands-down favorite movie of all time. I love how Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan work together. They compliment each other very well. I think this is one movie that I love the writing for all of the characters, major roles and minor roles too. I watch this movie very often and end up quoting funny lines to my husband every once in a while too.

If you're and average person you probably found this movie to be averge to dull. This movie is all about understatement, subtlety, symbolism, and the ability to "se surpasser" ( a french term which is a prerequisite for love, peace, and happinness). If you didn't find this one of the most recognized movies you'd never seen before ("a-ha" or in some cases, "oh shit!") read no further, and let's not ever bother discussing it. If you found some hiddent (O.K., pretty blatently and thinly veiled eternal truths in this, drop me a line and explain to me why I should send you the soundtrack I've compiled in MP3 format for your secret smiles while wheeling your BMW or Ford Taurus down the highway. If you are really convincing, show me some pictures and expand my concept, I'll include the Video that I ripped from the DVD FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY (in keeping with US Copyright law...don't want George's FBI showing up at my door with an Interpol document in hand!)

i would like to say to all of the people whose comment s i have just read, Joe vs the volcano was the most magical and romantic film i have ever seen 50 times!!! the first time i saw it at the cinemas in 1990 i was so amazed and i instanly fell inlove with meg ryan!!! 12 years later i found the movie for $4 in a second hand shop, and since then i have been watching it at least 2 times a day. Watching movies over and over again is my specialty, but this film makes me forget about all the bullshit in my life and i feel so happy when i watch the scenes with meg ryan in them. all of my friends and family always think i am crazy watchin films constantly, but only Jo vs the Volcano fans understand the true beauty of watching this great film(especially if u are drinking or smoking....thats when i get emotional!!!).
