Joe vs The Volcano is my favorite movie.I think it represents life in many different ways. If you are in tune enough to spot them, the ways are endless. Thank you for the sight.

Every time my wife and I have a tough choice to make, we watch Joe again. It's easily our favorite movie. One thing, though. Does anybody know what the Great Dane dogs were about?

Joe versus the volcano is one of the most original and best movies of my generation. I love it and watch it regularly. It helps me to realize the importance of life and what is important in this life. It's amazing that a movie so simple can be so deep and complex at the same time. I love this movie!

I placed my comment before I read the others, and I might have more to say. Just like everyone previously, I also have wished for the soundtrack, and would even be willing to pay 150%. Anyway, my insights. I read the comment that asks about the tossing of Joe's hat into the ocean. Well, remember near the begining, right after hearing that he was going to die, he rushes into the office trying to make some sort of statement to reflect the eppifany he just had. Well, he tosses his hat in full view after it has fallen from the coat rack multiple times. Anyway, he throws this old dirty hat away, only to buy a fancy exotic looking thing. He throws this as a gesture to Angelica. Remember, he takes his hat to throw (in classic film tradition, as departure) and then looks at it reluctantly. Finally he just goes right ahead and throws it in. Well, what I think that's all about is that we all try to abandon one life, only to find another which we momentarilly find more appealing. I think Joe was just tired of trying to be something. If we stop trying to be something, who we naturally are will come up and take the place rightfully within our soul. Joe was "soul searching" and just threw it all away because he wanted his soul to bob to the surface, just like the luggage that miraculously appears twice. Becoming who we are is a miracle, and we must abandon "the thing of man."
P.S. if nobody minds, I might just right in occasionally new insights I have. I also find this highly stimulating. This is a film for people who don't want to watch mindless dribble or pretend to be some some over-analytical freak. This is a movie like old movies (which it constantly gives hommage to) in that we are to enjoy it for enjoyments sake. The insight isn't too deep. The movie is pleasantly simple, and finds complexity within that.
