Just saw this movie again and it becomes a closer friend each time I see it. Love the song "Marooned Without You." The movie and the song seems to pull the heart strings and re-kindle dreams from youth............

Love this movie! Is it Parable, Hero-quest, Fable?

I saw it in the theater. I had planned to go because I'm a Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan fan. Anyway, the evening I went, I had just received a termination notice from a job that I hated and was ill suited to perform (Can he Do the job?).
So I connected with it on a very emotional level. The moon rising on the ocean was a spiritual event for me and I made the decision to return to college and change careers. I'm in a new town in a new job.

I still watch it when I need a lift or I'm at one of those transition points in my life.

I had the pleasure of seeing this film during it's run in the theatres. Watching this story unfold on the big screen, almost completely alone in the dark, I was taken by it imediately! It struck such a chord with me, as I felt like I was Joe Banks at the time. I hated my job and had (and still have) physical problems. Joe's boss was a carbon copy of my own boss, with the maddening circular logic that management types use to intimidate and manipulate his subordinates. The story mirrored my life and feelings of frustation and futility.

I sat there in the dark, thunderstruck by the telling of the story, the visuals, the actors living within their characters. I fell in love with everything about the film.

I was amazed that the film did not do as well as other films that year, as it was a great story told well with a strong visual style. I have touted the film as a must see and recommended it over the years. In the meantime, I have taken my own sort of adventures since I first saw "Joe", and have not looked back. But I have taken the film with me to remember where I was, happy in the fact that a "brain cloud", whatever it is for each of us, can be a good thing and a springboard to living a fuller life. Mr. Hanks, if you ever read this, thank you for a wonderful job done well and masterfully!

My freshman year of high school I watched this movie every day for 8 straight days and wrote down my favorite lines. I know, kind of weird, but there was something that drew me to the movie, even though I wasn't exactly sure what it was. I was young, but wise enough to sense the metaphor that existed within the movie.

It was later when I read the book "The Little Prince" that I realized the amazing parallels between the two.

JVTV is a movie that more than anything provides hope and reminds people to beleive in life and all the great mysteries that are waiting to be discovered if we choose to live with our eyes open - in a state of constant, total amazement.

A great movie that should be enjoyed with an open mind.

I rarely do this, but was so moved by another movie that it struck me that other JVTV fans might like it.

Stranger than Fiction, the new version with Will Ferrell. Don't take this as oneof Will's comedy schticks, it is MUCH more than that. OK, that's it. Hope you like it if you watch it.

I saw this movie at the theater when it came out and thought it was great. For years I've felt like I carried it as a secret since so few people have seen it, and of those who have even fewer really appreciate it.
I was very, very happy when I found the soundtrack. I love movie music but this is one of the most moving, odd because it comes from a comedy.
I used to feel that Joe's story was very close to my own in terms of being trapped and almost lifeless from a bad job. Much later the story became truer in an unpleasant way: I got cancer. Now Joe means more to me than ever, and I am still trying to learn from it.
P.S.: I WANT THOSE CATALOGS, JOE!

Wow, well saw the movie when it first came out and then bought it on lazerdisc back in 97. That's when it hit me and I was able to appreciate this great movie. This is such a sweet and sorrowful movie. The funny thing about this is that I may be moving to the Big Island of Hawaii soon. The real Joe vs The Volcano for me!

Hey, I was just watching the movie (for the umpteenth time) and was wondering if anyone else has discovered that when the chime sounds on the boat, it is one hour into the movie. Well, one hour and a few seconds because Meg Ryan is finishing her line at the precise moment of one hour. Do I obsess over this movie? Maybe so...
